EMP Attacks and Solar Storms
What would happen if terrorists detonated a nuclear device high above the United States? What about if the Sun emitted a large coronal mass ejection that resulted in a damaging geomagnetic storm? In either case, electrical power could be lost for months. Shortages would quickly ensue—food, water, and fuel would disappear within days. Widespread panic and suffering would be unavoidable. Are you prepared for these large-scale disasters?
This book will help you to prepare for two end-of-the-world-as-we-know-it (TEOTWAWKI) events: the EMP attack and the solar storm. Each threat is carefully studied with analyses of its likelihood and potential impacts on our nation’s critical infrastructures. Practical preparations are outlined, including steps to meet the fourteen basic needs in the absence of modern utilities, and the use of Faraday cages and uninterruptible power supplies to protect personal electronics.
Several techniques for constructing ad-hoc Faraday cages are presented. The shielding effectiveness of homemade Faraday cages is measured and compared, including metal garbage cans, foil-wrapped boxes, fire safes, static bags, ammo cans, and microwave ovens. Finally, a low-cost method of constructing a room-sized Faraday cage is presented. The Expanded Edition includes 25 additional pages with discussions of how to establish your own micro-infrastructures, such as food, water, and electricity. Also, the susceptibility and protection of personal automobiles is presented.
I wrote this book to help people understand these two dangerous threats. If you are not fully satisfied with the Disaster Preparedness for EMP Attacks and Solar Storms, send it back, and I’ll refund your money, no questions asked.
The Survivalist 1 (Frontier Justice)
The Superpox-99 virus has wiped out nearly the entire human race. Governments have collapsed. Cities have become graveyards filled with unspeakable horror. People have resorted to scavenging from the dead, or taking from the living. The entire industrialized world has become a wasteland of abandoned cars, decaying bodies, and feral animals.
To stay alive, U.S. Deputy Marshal Mason Raines must forage for food, water, and gasoline while outgunning those who seek to take advantage of the apocalyptic anarchy. Together with his giant Irish wolfhound, Bowie, he aligns with survivors of the town of Boone in a life and death struggle against a gang of violent criminals. With each deadly encounter, Mason is forced to accept his place as one of the nation’s few remaining lawmen. In a world now populated by escaped convicts, paranoid mutants, and government hit squads, his only hope to save the townspeople is to enforce his own brand of frontier justice.
Halfway across the country, a killer is released from prison. With hopes set on a fresh start, he rescues a young girl desperate to get home. As they travel across the wasteland that once was the United States, they must call upon every bit of strength and courage to survive not only the horrors of the new world but also a violent government agenda.
The Survivalist 2 (Anarchy Rising)
After the worst pandemic in mankind’s history, anarchy threatens to break apart the United States. The government is years away from providing even the most basic necessities. Militias, gangs of convicts, and rogue soldiers face off in a violent free-for-all as they vie for power. Few safe havens remain. Big cities have been overrun with deformed survivors of the Superpox-99 pandemic. Smaller towns are being overtaken by authoritarians and lawless thugs. And congested interstates have become thoroughfares for desperate travelers and bandits seeking to capture women and supplies.
President Glass must face daunting challenges, completely unaware that some of her closest advisors are using unthinkable methods to have her removed. Their clandestine hunt for her eleven-year-old daughter, Samantha, intensifies, and the only person standing in their way is a ruthless convict who will stop at nothing keep the young girl safe.
Duty drives Deputy Marshal Mason Raines to leave the small town of Boone to discover the fate of his fellow lawmen. With his faithful wolfhound, Bowie, at his side, he crosses paths with desperate refugees, a bloodthirsty hangman, and savage cannibals. Only as he discovers the horrific truth, does he realize that he may be the last of his kind.
The Survivalist 3 (Judgment Day)
The United States continues to devolve into total lawlessness as it struggles to recover from a pandemic that left billions dead. Gangs of convicts sweep through towns, raping and murdering with impunity. Opportunistic warlords build private armies with the hopes of expanding their influence. And infected survivors continue to mutate, growing stronger and more psychotic with each passing day.
Deputy Marshal Mason Raines tracks a band of mercenaries responsible for poisoning hundreds of his fellow lawmen. Terribly outnumbered, he must resort to drawing the attention of an adversary even more dangerous than the soldiers of fortune. As the nation’s last living marshal, Mason must once again remind his enemy that no one is above the law.
Meanwhile, Tanner and Samantha travel to Salamanca, New York, to grant a dying man’s last wish. Together, they must overcome all manner of evil, including satanic worshippers, murderous road warriors, and a tunnel-dwelling creature that is anything but human. Their only hope of surviving the perilous journey is to work together in ways they never thought possible.
The Survivalist 4 (Madness Rules)
Few heroes remain in the apocalyptic wasteland of the United States. Deputy Marshal Mason Raines is one such hero. Still reeling from the death of his beloved, he is recruited to confront a band of ruthless lawmen. Only as bodies begin to pile up, does he question whether his latest mission was less about justice and more about revenge.
Meanwhile, Tanner and Samantha travel south toward Mount Weather for a long overdue reunion. When Samantha falls ill, Tanner is forced to compete in a brutal fight club to secure medical care. After discovering her mother’s fate, Samantha insists on a risky detour to the nation’s capital. If they are to have any chance of making it out alive, they must delve into the bowels the city to discover a closely guarded secret.
After the attack on President Rosalyn Glass, Lincoln Pike finally seizes the reins of power. With hopes of returning the country to greatness, he initiates sweeping measures to rebuild colonies, establish a gold-backed currency, and gain complete control of the military. Little do others realize that his inability to cope with a devastating loss has started him down a treacherous path toward madness.
The Survivalist 5 (Battle Lines)
Convinced that a militia leader holds the key to finally exacting justice, Deputy Marshal Mason Raines enters the destroyed city of Lexington. Traveling with the unlikeliest of allies, he must confront mutated survivors of the Superpox-99 virus as well as an elite group of military assassins sent to clean up evidence of President Pike’s crimes.
Meanwhile, Tanner and Samantha discover that their Naval Observatory hideaway isn’t as safe as they would have liked to believe. Forced to once again travel the roads, they face all new threats, including bloodthirsty animals, and survivalists with a twisted system of justice. When they come face-to-face with patient zero, not only does the origin of the virus become clear but also a glimmer of hope for mankind’s last survivors.
With sanity continuing to slip away, President Pike orders the abduction and murder of General Carr. As plans falter and allies depart, he is forced to accept that a larger showdown is coming. Battle lines are being drawn, and in the end, only the most ruthless will be left standing.
The Survivalist 6 (Finest Hour)
An elite group of military assassins are preparing for an assault on the Greenbrier bunker, their mission to remove all traces of President Glass and her supporters. It is up to Deputy Marshal Mason Raines, his giant Irish wolfhound, Bowie, and a beautiful Mossad agent to stop them. But as they race across the country, new dangers threaten to disrupt their plans, including ravagers that terrorize the roadways in armored cars.
When Mason stops to search for munitions at an Army depot, he is recruited by a corps of young cadets to help recover their missing commandant. Little does he know that the depot has become the home for hundreds of bloodthirsty survivors. Pinned down and hopelessly outnumbered, Mason must put his skills and trusty Supergrade to the ultimate test.
Tanner and Samantha depart on a quest to put an end to President Pike’s growing tyrannical rule. Along the way, they must confront the most violent of men, including a psychotic Delta Force soldier who has taken to skinning his victims, and a band of Mexican drug dealers that insist on young Samantha’s help in recovering their lost payload. Only as they push into the nation’s capital, does Samantha realize that Tanner plans to call upon her father’s killer to help them survive the terror that fills the tunnels beneath the city.
The Survivalist 7 (Last Stand)
Justice is finally at hand. Deputy Marshal Mason Raines is closing in on General Hood and his murderous Black Dogs. To protect President Glass, he must first find a way through The Greenbrier bunker’s blast doors, a feat that will require confronting an unspeakable creature inhabiting the sewers. Terribly outnumbered, Mason, Bowie, Leila, and three young cadets must call upon every bit of skill and courage to make one valiant last stand.
Meanwhile, Tanner and Samantha embark on a far less noble mission. Not only must they kill President Pike, they must also dismantle his powerful empire. To do so, they find themselves aligning with an army of hideous, and often unpredictable, survivors. Only after unleashing the violent horde, do they begin to realize that their hasty alliance might result in the collapse of the entire federal government.
The Survivalist 8 (Dark Days)
Still reeling from the death of President Glass, Deputy Marshal Mason Raines finds himself working for the New Colony. Using his unique skills as both lawman and soldier, he leads an elite team tasked with retrieving critical supplies for mankind’s last survivors. While delivering goods to an independent food supplier, known only as “The Farm,” Mason uncovers a secret that goes against all that it means to be human. Refusing to join their ranks, he soon finds himself the target of a man willing to do anything to keep that secret from being revealed.
Hundreds of miles away, Tanner and Samantha investigate a cryptic call from the Watts Bar Nuclear Facility. There they discover a menace so great that it threatens to leave the surrounding area forever uninhabitable. When Tanner is captured by a militia group, Samantha is faced with not only surviving on her own, but also finding a way to secure his escape.
With Tanner and Samantha away, Issa secretly departs for Mount Weather to share the exciting news of her pregnancy. Armed with an elephant rifle and her two trusty blades, she discovers a band of men trafficking in those who have been afflicted with the virus. It is then that Issa must decide where her loyalties lie, as well as how much risk she and her unborn child can endure.
The Survivalist 9 (Freedom Lost)
When a friend is wrongly convicted, Deputy Marshal Mason Raines must take his place in a gunfighting competition unlike any other. To survive, he must overcome a handful of unique shooting challenges, each with deadly consequences. As Mason defeats one ruthless competitor after another, he begins to question not only the brutality of the competition but also the guilt of its competitors.
Meanwhile, Tanner and Samantha embark on a cross-country journey to find Issa. Along the way, they take up the cause of a cantankerous old nun searching for her missing sisters. Their journey leads them to a sadistic doctor specializing in eugenics, and an abandoned children’s insane asylum with a dark inhabitant.
Only a handful of miles away, Issa leads a band of infected misfits on a bold rescue mission. While attempting to overcome a community of violent slavers, tragedy strikes, and she is forced accept that the fight cannot be won. Trapped and outnumbered, Issa and those in her charge begin to wonder if there is any hope of escape.
The Survivalist 10 (National Treasure)
Just when it looks like Deputy Marshal Mason Raines might finally settle into a life free from violence, he receives an emergency distress call from the New Colony. Not only has his handler been brutally attacked, but the life of a treacherous woman he once loved is also in danger. Forced to choose between contentment and duty, he must once again forsake his own happiness for the welfare of others. This time, however, he would be well served to remember that the motives of those being rescued are anything but pure.
Faced with an equally daunting challenge, Tanner and Samantha travel west to Fort Knox, Kentucky. Their goal is as simple as it is impossible: to rob the nation’s Gold Vault of all its remaining treasure. The trip takes an unexpected turn, and they find themselves recruited by and old woman eager to lay her husband to rest. But even that task is not without moral choices that have them questioning what it means to be one of the nation’s last remaining survivors.
The Survivalist 11 (Solemn Duty)
Solemn Duty is the eleventh book in the Survivalist series. Fleeing an army of the infected, Deputy Marshal Mason Raines is forced to enter an area overrun with lawlessness. When his ex-lover is kidnapped, he must negotiate her release with a brutal warlord set on expanding his empire. Coerced to do his bidding, Mason is recruited to hijack a secret convoy running between the newly-established colonies. After discovering it contents, however, he must decide between the life of someone he loves and those of the pandemic’s last survivors.
Meanwhile, Tanner and Samantha continue their pursuit of the gold stolen from Fort Knox. When they discover the train used to carry it away, they also encounter a small community plagued by grotesque body-snatching mutants. To recover the gold, they must undertake a dangerous quest to rid the area of the hideous monsters. But as the journey takes them into an abandoned missile silo, they make a discovery far worse than any they could ever have imagined.
After taking her revenge, Issa awaits Tanner’s return to Mount Weather. When a young widow is brutally murdered, she must uncover not only her killers but also their reasons behind it. Discovering that the killing was a precursor to something much larger, Issa must choose between the safety of her unborn child and that of the community’s beloved matron.
The Survivalist 12 (Road Home)
Following the tragic death of his deceitful lover, Mason hopes to return to the one place where a peaceful life might still be possible. Detouring to recover a hidden treasure of gold, he meets a beautiful widow in trouble. Together, they travel to her hometown of Clover, South Carolina, an idyllic community protected by a police chief and his faithful deputies. Caught in the middle of a plot driven by greed and lust, Mason soon discovers that carrying a king’s ransom is not without its risks.
Meanwhile, Issa and Mother must find their way out of the tunnels under Mount Weather. Pregnant and without supplies, Issa is forced to use her wits and trusty Merkel rifle to keep them alive. As they push deeper into the darkness, they uncover a horror that traces back to the earliest days of Mother’s rule. They quickly realize that their only hope for escape is to trust one another, even if it means taking an unthinkable risk.
With two nuclear warheads in their possession, Tanner and Samantha embark on their journey back to Mount Weather. Along the way, they encounter a bounty hunter in search of his next job. Agreeing to transport him to a place known only as “Sanctuary,” they discover a community built around the unlikeliest of currencies. With evil threatening to tear them apart, they must once again stand together if they are to have any hope of returning home.
In 1885, President Grover Cleveland commissioned a special group of agents to investigate paranormal activities plaguing the nation. Unwilling to accept failure, he granted each the authority to operate outside the law. His directive was simple. No rules. No excuses. Just get it done.
